About Esoterra Garden Design

Background

I graduated with Distinction from the Professional Garden Design course at Cotswold Gardening School in 2026, where I studied under garden designer Caroline Tatham.

A lifelong interest in nature, together with a creative background in music and audio, led me towards garden design and the opportunity to work more closely with landscapes, plants and materials. Based in Bristol, I now design gardens across the South West.

I have gained experience working on projects with Hannah Rickards, Claire Cruickshank, and recently contributed as a volunteer to Sophie Leo's award-winning garden at RHS Badminton.

Approach

My approach is collaborative, working with trusted plant nurseries, landscapers, stonemasons and other specialist craftspeople where needed. Careful attention is given to the details, materials and planting that help a new garden settle into its surroundings and feel as though it belongs.

I am particularly drawn to naturalistic planting, texture and the contrast between strong, contemporary structure and looser planting. Each design, however, responds to the client and the character of the site, and can equally take a more formal, traditional or cottage-inspired direction.

Sustainability is an important part of my approach. Wherever possible, I look for lower-impact materials and ways to reduce the carbon associated with creating a garden. I also have a particular interest in climate-resilient planting, including drought-tolerant Mediterranean-inspired schemes and sand and gravel gardens suited to increasingly dry conditions.
